What is SBMPTN?




Seleksi Bersama Masuk Perguruan Tinggi Negeri or SBMPTN (Joint Entrance Selection of State Universities) is an Indonesian college entrance system for admission of new students in state universities using written examinations nationally. It is one of the three main pathways to enter state universities in Indonesia, besides SNMPTN (Joint National Selection of State Universities) and Mandiri (Independent Selection). SBMPTN is managed by Lembaga Tes Masuk Perguruan Tinggi or LTMPT (Agency of University Entrance Tests), an agency under the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology.

For college applicants, SBMPTN is very beneficial because it is more efficient, cheaper, and flexible due to cross-regional mechanisms. You can apply for up to three study programs in different state universities across the country with only one registration fee. You can also choose the test location that is closest to your residence. Moreover, SBMPTN offers a fair and transparent selection process that is based on your academic abilities and potential.


How to register for SBMPTN?




To register for SBMPTN, you need to follow these steps:


  • Create an account on SNPMB (National Higher Education Entrance Examination) website (www.snmptn.ac.id) using your NISN (National Student Identification Number) and email address.



  • Fill in your personal data, academic data, and non-academic data on the website.



  • Choose up to three study programs that you want to apply for in different state universities. You can use the information on PTN Finder (www.ptnfinder.com) to help you decide.



  • Pay the registration fee through the designated bank channels. The fee varies depending on the type of test that you choose. As of 2021, the fee for basic and natural/social test only is Rp200.000,00, while the fee for basic and mixed test is Rp300.000,00.



  • Print out your registration card and bring it along with your identity card on the day of the test.

Academic qualifications




  • You must be a high school student or a graduate who has completed 12 years of formal education or equivalent.



  • <li You must have a minimum average score of 7.5 for the subjects that are relevant to the study program that you apply for. For example, if you apply for a natural sciences program, you must have a minimum average score of 7.5 for mathematics, physics, chemistry, and biology.



  • You must have a minimum average score of 8.0 for the subjects that are not relevant to the study program that you apply for. For example, if you apply for a social sciences program, you must have a minimum average score of 8.0 for mathematics, physics, chemistry, and biology.



  • You must have a minimum national exam score of 60% for all subjects.



Non-academic qualifications




  • You must be an Indonesian citizen or a foreign citizen who has a permanent residence permit in Indonesia.



  • You must be in good health and not suffer from any physical or mental disabilities that can hinder your academic performance.



  • You must not be involved in any criminal activities or violations of academic ethics.



What are the types of tests in SBMPTN?




SBMPTN consists of two types of tests: basic test and field test. The basic test is mandatory for all applicants, while the field test depends on the study program that you choose. The basic test measures your general knowledge and skills in four subjects: Indonesian language, English language, mathematics, and general knowledge. The field test measures your specific knowledge and skills in three fields: natural sciences, social sciences, and mixed.


Basic test




The basic test consists of 160 multiple-choice questions that are divided into four sections: Indonesian language (40 questions), English language (40 questions), mathematics (40 questions), and general knowledge (40 questions). The duration of the basic test is 120 minutes. The basic test covers the following topics:
